Tawtheeq hails British justice for issuing arrest warrant against Livni

GAZA, (PIC)-- The central commission for documentation and prosecution of Israeli war criminals (Tawtheeq) on Tuesday welcomed the warrant issued by a British judge for the arrest of former Israeli foreign minister Tzipi Livni on suspicion of committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement, the commission said that this decision is an important step towards achieving international justice because it gave war victims in Gaza hope for the prosecution of Israeli war criminals.

The commission said that when it learned that Livni would visit Britain on December 13, it hastened to coordinate with British lawyer Al-Tayeb Ali and a group of lawyers to file complaints on behalf of a number of war victims who were wounded during Israel’s attack on Palestinian policemen on the first day of its war on Gaza.

In the same context, Israeli political sources affirmed reports on a formal arrest warrant issued in London against Livni for its involvement in war crimes in Gaza.

Media sources quoted British officials as saying that the judge which issued this arrest warrant annulled his decision after he learned that Livni is not in Britain.

For her part, Livni told Israeli media outlets that she cancelled her visit to London due to scheduling problems.

The last Israel war on Gaza led to the killing of more than 1,500 Palestinians, most of them were children and women and the injury of about 6,000 others, while the Strip's infrastructure was totally destroyed.
