State security forces stormed on Tuesday three bookstores owned by Muslim Brotherhood publishers in the
A number of security officers raided Al Andalus and Awlad Hammam bookshops, arrested its owner Haitham Hammam, and seized some of the books and items sold on the bookshop.
The same security force arrested the owner of Al Resala bookstore after they found it closed, forced him to open it and searched its contents seizing some library stuff and books which the bookstore sells.
Similar incidents occur frequently before the holy month of Ramadan. Security forces break into publishing houses and bookstores owned by Muslim Brotherhood members, or libraries that sell Islamic and religious books.
Secretary General of the Egyptian Publishers Union Assem Shalaby has criticized the wave of attacks on Islamic bookshops and said it is another episode in the government’s assault on freedom of expression and its violation of the inviolability of private properties.
