Medical negligence deaths are crimes that won’t be transcended and it’s a timely duty to stand up against detainee’s rotation and abuse

The death of detainee “Hussien Hassan Abdelah” wasn’t the first case of medical negligence amongst Egyptian political detainees, 13 more have died since the beginning of this year, and since July 2013 the toll has reached 1124 detainee who have died due to medical negligence. As we extend our condolences to the martyr’s family and the families of those who passed before him; we must assert that medical negligence slow murder in prisons is a crime that shall not be transcended.

And as political detainees pay their lives as a price for their humane right to form an opinion and voice it out, “Rotational detention” comes to eat away more of their lives and the lives of their families, and adds to the unjust imprisonment agony, endless financial and social burdens.

Independent human rights institutions were able to document over 2500 “Rotational detention” cases, some were rotated over 7 times with set accusations for all; that said, the actual number of such cases is not to be known, as transparency is absent in the Egyptian justice system. It has become a timely duty to stand up against all such abuses, in defense of Egyptians’ dignity and their right to freedom and a law they can respect and abide by.

Considering remand being abused as a collective punishment for thousands of detainees, civilians being tried before military and extraordinary courts and the basic laws being bended and overridden just to abuse detainees - Examples of such would be the preventing detainees from the rightful visits, exercise, and basic needs; we continue to assert that we hold the regime accountable on both political and criminal responsibility for the lives and health of all detainees.

The “Muslim Brotherhood” continues to work through all available tools and channels to end detainees suffering and to regain their rights and that of Egypt’s.
