To Martyr President Mohamed Morsi on Anniversary of His Demise

Today, June 17, marks the anniversary of the martyrdom of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, the first democratically elected civilian president, in the first free test of the nation’s will after the glorious January Revolution. The anniversary of his demise is a saddening and painful memory, not only for the Muslim Brotherhood, as one of its prominent leaders, but also for millions of Egyptian people, and the world’s free people who have believed in the right of peoples to freedom and sovereignty and wished well for Egypt and its people.

On the anniversary of your passing away, Mr. President, May Allah have mercy on you, we remember your great exploits; and when you moved to your Lord, you were steadfast, complacent, and seeking the reward only from Him, after a life full of giving and jihad. Mr President, you could have been enjoying power and safety from harm if you had only showed a kind of ‘humiliating’ cession (in religion, homeland, or legitimacy). But you preferred to only obtain your reward from Allah Almighty, so you went to your Lord with your hands pure (away from corruption) and your head up. In doing so, you have set a good example on the path of justice and freedom; which will surely be remembered by history in records of those who sacrificed (their lives) to liberate the will of their peoples.

May Allah have mercy on the martyr president, the virtuous, pious, modest, and Quran-loving man, who lived as a ‘mujahid’ striving for the supremacy of his homeland and religion. People have always known him as a distinguished scholar, a vigilant parliamentarian, and later a fair president for all Egyptians. He boosted political partnership, extended his hand to all, unleashed freedoms, and addressed citizen concerns, in pursuit of social justice and well-being.

On the anniversary of your martyrdom, Mr. President, we will always remember all your exploits with pride, not because you are infallible -Allah forbid- as there is no infallible person except for the Prophet, but because you did your best; and did not betray people’s trust. It suffices you that you did not quit power within the framework of a fair and honest political competition, with use of tools of politics, but under the sway of the war machine in the field of politics; so you were coerced and imprisoned, and your supporters crushed, while your oppressors arrogantly and unjustly committed all these evils (against you and your supporters).

Our only consolation is that the Hereafter will alone be the date for judgment (between the oppressor and the oppressed), and the time for reward or punishment, as well, amid Allah’s contentment and bliss for His righteous servants. Congratulations on your martyrdom.

“… And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take!” (Al-Shura: 227)
