Targeting Journalists In Khan Yunis Is A War Crime
The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) condemns the heinous massacre perpetrated by the Zionist occupation against Palestinian journalists in the Gaza Strip, as a tent for journalists was targeted near the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis, south of the Palestinian Strip. The “Israeli” strike on the tent led to the martyrdom of journalist Hilmi al-Faqawi and caused serious injuries of several other media professionals.
This cowardly attack is a continuation of the occupation's series of crimes against civilians, which has surpassed all boundaries, and reveals how far it is horrified by the words and images that expose its crimes to the world.
The MB affirms that international humanitarian law classifies journalists working in conflict zones as civilians and that they should enjoy full protection under the Geneva Conventions of 1949, specifically the Additional Protocol I, Article (79), which prohibits targeting them or using violence against them.
This makes this crime a flagrant violation of international law, amounting to a war crime that requires accountability.
According to the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS), this brutal attack brings the number of Palestinian journalists killed since the start of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip in October 2023 to over 210 victims, an unprecedented toll that reflects the systematic and deliberate targeting of journalistic work.
We hold the occupation fully responsible for this heinous crime, and we call on the international community and organizations concerned with human rights and press freedom to shoulder their responsibilities by condemning the aggression and pressuring it to halt these crimes.
May Allah Almighty have mercy on the martyrs: and we pray to Him for a speedy recovery for the wounded, and a quick victory for our resilient people in Gaza.
