MB Condolences on the Passing of Dr. Khurshid Ahmad, Deputy Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami in Pakistan
With deep sorrow and grief, the Muslim Brotherhood extends its heartfelt condolences to the Muslim Ummah on the passing of one of the leading figures of Islamic thought and da’wa in the Muslim world, Professor Dr. Khurshid Ahmad, Deputy Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami in Pakistan, former Senate Member, and Minister for Planning and Development, who has passed away in the city of Leicester, United Kingdom.
With the passing away of Dr. Khurshid Ahmad, Pakistan as well as the entire Muslim Umma has lost a rare scholarly and da’wa figure who devoted his life to serving Islam and Islamic thought. Dr. Ahmed was one of the pioneering founders of the academic discipline of Islamic economics and he introduced outstanding contributions in the fields of politics, research, and education. Dr. Khurshid Ahmad was widely recognized and appreciated across the world, as he had received the King Faisal International Prize, the Islamic Development Bank Prize, and the Order of Excellence from the Government of Pakistan.
The deceased — may Allah have mercy on him — combined intellectual rigor with activism and da’wa, and he was a prolific author and speaker. Dr. Ahmed also participated in over one hundred international conferences and seminars and authored over seventy books in both Arabic and English. He left behind a vast intellectual legacy and pioneering institutions across the Muslim world, whose impact will long bear witness to his abundant service to his religion and Ummah.
While the Muslim Brotherhood extends its sincere condolences to Jamaat-e-Islami of Pakistan, and to the family, students, and the loved ones of the deceased. We pray to Allah Almighty to bestow His infinite mercy on him, grant him a spacious abode in Paradise, reward him for his service to Islam and the Muslims, and grant patience and solace to his family and companions.
Allah Almighty says: {And give glad tidings to the patient— who, when disaster strikes them, say: Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return} (Al-Baqarah: 155-156)
