MB congratulates the new Pope, urges him to adopt a humanitarian stance against genocide crimes

The Muslim Brotherhood extends its sincere congratulations to Pope Leo XIV (formerly Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost) on his election as Pope of the Catholic Church, succeeding Pope Francis, who was known for his stances calling for peace, justice, and human compassion.

The election of Pope Leo XIV comes at a critical moment for the world, with conflicts escalating, hatred spreading, and crimes of ethnic cleansing and genocide being committed, most notably the brutal aggression against civilians and innocents in Palestine, amid shameful international silence and appalling moral inaction.

As the Brotherhood affirms that religious faith, when firmly rooted in the conscience, refines behavior and promotes defense of truth, it views the exalted spiritual position of the Catholic Church as an opportunity and a responsibility to guide its followers toward upholding the values of mercy and justice, working to stop crimes against humanity, and rejecting hate speech and racism wherever it may  occur.

The Muslim Brotherhood also calls on the new Pope to continue the humanitarian approach for which his predecessor was known, to combat the phenomenon of “Islamophobia”, champion the rights of the oppressed, and build bridges of understanding and coexistence among peoples and cultures, in a world that is in dire need of the trans-denominational and transnational humane conscience.
