MB hails the EU decision to review its partnership with the occupation and calls on Arab countries to make similar decisions

The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) welcomes the European Union's decision to review the (trade) partnership agreement (known as the Association Agreement) which was signed with the Zionist entity in Brussels on 20 November 1995 and entered into force in 2000. It is noteworthy that Article 2 of the Agreement includes an explicit commitment to respect human rights and democratic principles as a fundamental basis for continued cooperation between the two parties.

This decision comes amid the escalating international condemnation of the crimes committed by the Zionist entity in the Gaza Strip, including mass killings, systematic starvation, and the widespread destruction of infrastructure. These Israeli crimes come in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and amount to genocide, as confirmed by the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

We note here that the European Union's decision, based on a violation of the human rights clause, represents a significant step toward isolating the “Israeli” entity internationally and holding it accountable for the atrocities it is committing against innocent civilians. It also confirms that the political and economic isolation of the Zionist entity has become possible and realistic, provided that there is international will to do so.

The power of this decision stems from the fact that the European Union is the Zionist entity's largest trading partner, accounting for approximately one-third of its foreign trade volume. This highlights the significance of political and economic pressure in influencing the entity's behaviour and decisions.

As we appreciate this European position, we meanwhile remind that we had previously called on Arab countries to adopt firm political and economic positions that would pressure the Zionist entity to halt its aggression on Gaza, but unfortunately they have not responded. Today, after the world has started to realize the significance of the condemnation of this entity, the legitimacy of its isolation, and the availability of legal grounds to review any agreements with it, we reiterate our call (on Arab countries) to make practical decisions in this regard. We also emphasize that making effective decisions (against the occupation) has become an obligation that cannot be put off; even it is a historical responsibility in light of the bloodshed of innocents and the suffering of those put under siege.

We also call upon all countries of the world and international institutions to follow this approach and exert maximum political, commercial, and economic pressure on the Zionist entity to halt the genocide war and the crimes against humanity that are escalating on a daily basis in the Gaza Strip.
