Storming Al-Aqsa Mosque is a crime against every Muslim, and we are wondering about the role of parliaments in holding governments to account
The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) condemns the heinous storming of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque carried out by the Zionist occupation forces this morning, led by its extremist security minister and along with hundreds of settlers, in a odious attack on the sanctity of Islamic holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.
The Brotherhood holds Arab and Islamic governments responsible for their silence in the face of recurrent threats and systematic incursions, which aim to impose a gradual Judaization reality and obliterate the Islamic identity of the Holy City.
The MB stresses that the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque is the sole right of Muslims, that it is the first of the two Qiblas and the third of the two Holy Mosques; and that defending Al-Aqsa Mosque is a duty for every Muslim, that no one should be complacent about it.
The Brotherhood also emphasizes that the aggressive policies in Jerusalem pit the Zionist project against the Islamic world regarding its most cherished holy sites.
In this regard, the Muslim Brotherhood calls on Arab and Islamic countries to make decisions that should lift the cost of the crimes committed by the occupation and deter it from continuing its aggression.
The MB also calls on parliaments, the voices of the peoples and their tools of accountability, to enact and issue legislation, review any agreements with the Zionist entity, and monitor the political, economic, and military practices of governments, with the aim of freezing all forms of cooperation with it and forcing it to respect international law and human rights.
The Brotherhood also emphasizes the need to restore the Palestinian cause as a central cause for the nation, and to restore its status within Arab and Islamic identity and culture, as well as in politics, education, and the media, as it must not be relinquished or ignored.
The MB also calls on international organizations to undertake their responsibilities toward preservation of places of worship and protecting the Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem, taking into mind that the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque is the symbol of our identity and faith in Palestine.
