Concerning the “Caravan of Steadfastness”, we deem the Egyptian regime far above playing the role of a “policeman” for the Zionist entity on the border with Gaza
The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) hails the Arab Maghreb popular convoy, known as the “Caravan of Steadfastness”, and the global campaign to lift the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip, known as “Global March to Gaza”, in solidarity with our people, besieged in the Palestinian Strip, and in practical efforts to break the unjust blockade, which has intensified since 7 October 2023.
The Brotherhood emphasizes that the “Caravan of Steadfastness” places everyone before their moral, humanitarian, political, and legal responsibilities, particularly Egypt, the lifeline for the besieged Gaza Strip and its sole gateway to the world.
Therefore, the MB calls on the Egyptian regime to facilitate the symbolic mission of the convoy and to live up to the hopes of the world's free people, not the hopes or dictates of the Israeli Defense Minister, who stated that he expected that Egypt would decline the passage of the activists in solidarity with Gaza through the Rafah crossing.
Egypt, the great country and the supporter of Palestinian rights, should live up to the hopes of the Arab nation and should champion the Palestinian rights in action, not just in words – Or do the Palestinian rights not extend to (provision of relief to) more than two million people living in the Gaza Strip?
The Brotherhood categorically rejects Egypt's role as a "policeman" guarding the borders of the Zionist occupation and preventing humanitarian aid convoys from reaching the Gaza Strip. This role is inconsistent with Egypt's status, history, and national and religious duty toward Palestine and the Palestinian cause.
Therefore, we strongly condemn the Egyptian authorities' arrest of several Moroccan participants in the “Caravan of Steadfastness”, upon their arrival at Cairo Airport and forcibly deporting them out of the country. This conduct is inconsistent with the principles of Arab solidarity and constitutes a grave insult to Egypt's and its people's history of support for the Palestinian cause.
The MB wonders about the thousands of Israelis that Egypt receives on an annual basis, facilitating their entry, movement, and residence in Sinai and elsewhere, while simultaneously restricting Arab solidarity activists and preventing them from reaching the Rafah crossing. This painful paradox requires urgent review by the Egyptian authorities, even as a matter of the reciprocity principle.
To conclude, the Muslim Brotherhood stresses that denial or restriction of the convoy is an unacceptable bias toward the occupying enemy and places whoever obstructs this humanitarian movement in a position of complicity with the aggression.
Long live Egypt as free, great, honorable, and living up to the hopes of the peoples of the Islamic world; long live Gaza free and proud; and greetings to all the free people on the path of resilience and liberation.
