Press Release on the Anniversary of the 25 January Revolution
This year’s anniversary of the 25 January Revolution comes at a time when Egypt and the entire Arab region are witnessing an unprecedented escalation of the Israeli expansionist moves aimed at redrawing the map of influence and ensuring the absolute dominance of the occupation over the provincial decision-making.
These rapid regional transformations require us – and in fact everyone – to honestly review the lessons of the past, rearrange priorities, and prioritize what unites us over what divides us, in order to thwart the plans of the Israeli occupation, which aims to fragment our societies, divide our countries, and liquidate the Palestinian cause with the support and backing of the United Arab Emirates.
In fact, the objectives of the 25 January Revolution, "Bread, Freedom, and Social Justice", cannot be achieved without national forces that realize the sensitivity of the current moment and have enough courage to offer whatever necessary – sincerely and responsibly – in order for society to stand united, which would consolidate the position of our state and its national institutions in the face of this Israeli unruly chaos.
Despite the seriousness of the restructuring phase that our arab region is going through, it holds historic opportunities – which may not be repeated for many decades – to establish equations that would ensure the interests of the peoples and countries of the region and protect their sovereignty and the independence of their national decision. However, this necessarily requires a genuine openness to strengthen the home front and transform national principles from slogans into realistic readiness.
Protection of Egypt's capabilities and resources and strengthening the state's power in the face of these multi-front external threats requires closing the chapter on the plight of the detainees from all national orientations, as the detainees are an integral and important part of Egypt's loyal and sincere human resources. Addressing this bleeding wound in our nation’s body is an obvious necessity to strengthen society and enhance its resilience in the face of external challenges – no matter how intense the internal political conflict may be.
Anyway, affirming unwavering commitment to the 25 January Revolution does not necessarily mean adhering literally to the components of that moment and its contexts at the expense of achieving its goals. In fact, achievement of those goals will remain a firm commitment of the Muslim Brotherhood, but it requires creating a favorable environment that takes into account Egypt’s higher interests and national security, respects the aspirations of the diverse national forces, and at the same time preserves the interests of the region of which we are an integral part.
Peace be upon the martyrs of this glorious revolution, and upon its youth, its symbols, its cultural and social forces, and upon the Egyptian people that embraced it and placed their bets on it.
Peace be upon the Tahrir Square and all the revolution’s squares, in which the will of the Egyptians, their unity and their common dreams were embodied, so that it has become a pivotal station in the history of the Egyptian ongoing national struggle for freedom, justice, dignity and independence of will.
