MB Statement Regarding the Signing of the US-Iranian Agreement
The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) is following with interest the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) that was signed at dawn today between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, as a prelude to a second phase of negotiations leading to a final agreement to end the war. The MB views this agreement as an important shift towards de-escalation and addressing outstanding issues through dialogue and negotiation.
While the MB stresses that its view of these developments stems from its belief in the right of peoples to live in safety, it declares its support for every serious effort that opens the door to peace, prioritizes diplomatic solutions, respects the sovereignty of states, adheres to the rules of international law, and rejects aggression against peoples or the transformation of their lands and potentials into arenas of conflict.
The Brotherhood emphasizes that the use of force is no longer capable of creating sustainable security or imposing genuine stability. The experience of war has proven that warring states, regardless of their varying strengths, are capable of inflicting pain on others. Therefore, returning to the political path is not a secondary option, but a necessity to protect the future of the region and the interests of its people.
The Muslim Brotherhood affirms that the Arab Iranian neighborhood is a geographical, historical, and religious reality that should be viewed as a strength. It also believes that this agreement should be an entry point for launching a serious dialogue between the Gulf states and Iran, based on respect for everyone’s interests, first and foremost their common interests, as well as non-interference in internal affairs, and preserving the independence and sovereignty of states, in a way that enhances security and stability, and prevent the region from being drawn into conflicts that only serve the interests of lurking powers that do not want security or progress for it.
The resources, wealth, and development infrastructure of the region's countries only belong to their peoples and are the right of the nation as a whole. Therefore, they must not be subjected to military adventures or power struggles. Furthermore, the safety of maritime routes, the smooth flow of supply chains, and the stability of energy markets are primarily in the interests of the region's countries, and indeed the whole world's, countries, and should be protected through understanding and cooperation, not through threats and escalation.
The Brotherhood views the signing of the memorandum of understanding as a failure for the Zionist entity and its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who seeks to perpetuate and expand the war at the expense of the region's security and stability. In fact, the peace process, its participants, and its regional and international mediators affirm a commitment to prioritizing dialogue and ending the war.
The MB stresses that the will for peace is indivisible and that any genuine peace in the region will remain incomplete and threatened unless it is based on justice, particularly ending the Israeli occupation, stopping the aggression against the Palestinian people, and enabling them to exercise their legitimate rights, at the heart of which is the establishment of their independent Palestinian state. The Palestinian cause will remain the core of the conflict and the key to security and stability in the region.
The Brotherhood appreciates the efforts exerted in the mediation process, especially Qatar’s active role in bringing viewpoints closer and supporting the diplomatic track, Turkey’s role and efforts in pushing for de-escalation and reducing tensions, the efforts exerted by Pakistan, and the support of Egypt and Saudi Arabia for the endeavors aimed at sparing the region further wars.
To conclude, the Muslim Brotherhood stresses that its hailing of the political process does not mean adopting specific details of the agreement, especially since the negotiation process is still open, but it is a declaration of a clear and principled bias towards peace, respect for the sovereignty of states, and the right of peoples to security, development and independence.
