MB: The State Must Pave The Way For Resolving the Detainees’ Issue
The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) reaffirms its steadfast commitment to defending the rights of all political detainees, particularly the need to end the practice of "recycling" detainees into new cases and the prolonged pre-trial detention, putting a stop to deliberate medical negligence, guaranteeing all fundamental rights within detention facilities, and opening a serious process to review the detainees’ legal statuses with the ultimate goal of securing their full release.
The MB stresses that the issue of detainees is a top priority for the group; however, detainees themselves are the ones who primarily decide on their own situation and the peaceful means they choose to convey their legitimate demands.
We stand fully behind these demands and continue to support them, while respecting the will of detainees and rejecting any attempt to impose choices upon them or speak on their behalf.
In fact, the cause of detainees’ freedom is a matter of human rights and justice that transcends all other considerations; while everyone has the right to support it, no one – whoever they may be – has the right to impose upon it objectives or stances not chosen by those involved.
In this regard, the Brotherhood calls upon all state institutions to address the root cause of the problem, rather than resorting to security measures against detainees for protesting or voicing their demands. What is really needed is to listen to them and pave a genuine path toward a solution, not to compound their suffering and add a new crisis to a situation that is already in deep distress.
Resolving this significant issue in accordance with the principles of justice and the rule of law is not a gain for one party at the expense of another. Rather, it is a right belonging to the detainees and their families, and a necessary step toward ending the suffering that has lasted far too long - and toward building a future that embraces everyone, where no individual is deprived of their freedom and dignity.
Allah Is the Greatest, and Praise Be to Allah,
