MB: Commendation for the Call of His Eminence the Grand Imam, Sheikh of Al-Azhar and Open Support for Efforts to Unite the Nation
The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) appreciates the urgent, fraternal call issued by His Eminence the Grand Imam, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb to leaders of the Arab and Islamic worlds, in which he called for an immediate and comprehensive cessation of the war and fighting (between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthis), urged that the bonds of faith and kinship be prioritized, and advocated for a recourse to reason and dialogue.
In this call, we see a responsible stance – one befitting the stature of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and its inclusive mission – at a critical juncture where conflicts threaten the security of nations, claim the lives of innocent people, deplete the wealth of populations, and jeopardize their future.
In times of crisis and mounting adversity, a nation looks to its (religious) scholars to uphold its values, establish its principles, define its direction, and set its course – a role rooted in their historical and religious responsibility – recalling Allah Almighty’s words in Surat Al Imran: ﴾ And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. And remember the favor of Allah upon you - when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favor, brothers.﴿ (Al Imran: 103).
The Muslim Brotherhood warns against agendas that seek to fuel conflicts, deplete the resources of nations, and divert the energy of the Arab world away from its primary challenges – foremost among them confronting the ambitions of the Israeli enemy, achieving development and progress, and safeguarding sovereignty.
It further cautions that the escalating infighting drains the strength of regional states, paves the way for broader Israeli hegemony, and facilitates the seizure of more Arab territory by leaving these nations exhausted from internal strife.
The MB also reaffirms its commitment to ongoing efforts aimed at bridging divisions and fostering unity. It also declares its full support for the Al-Azhar Al-Sharif’s proposal to establish an urgent mediation and de-escalation committee – comprising the nation’s wisest and most prudent figures – and expresses its readiness to cooperate with this committee, leveraging all its available resources and connections.
This stance is rooted in the duty to prevent the shedding of blood, in accordance with the words of Allah Almighty in Surat Al Hujurat: ﴾ The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that you may receive mercy.﴿ (Al Hujurat: 10)
The Brotherhood calls upon media outlets, religious and intellectual platforms, and digital-space influencers to shoulder their responsibilities, to prioritize a discourse of unity and fraternity over sectarian incitement, and to place the prevention of bloodshed and the preservation of the nation above all other considerations.
We pray to the Almighty – Glorified and Exalted is He – to grant the Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and its Grand Imam the best of rewards for this principled stance; and to protect our Arab and Islamic nations and spare our region from the scourges of war and strife, as well as the dire consequences of yielding to the occupier and his collaborators.
