Childhood and Early Life
Mohammed Ma'mun Hassan Ismail Al-Hudaybi was the son of the second General Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood. He was born in ''Al-Shawala village – Sohag'' on 28th May 1921. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at Cairo University. Al-Hudaybi was appointed as an Attorney General. He was also promoted in the judicial positions until he became the President of the Court of Appeal in Cairo. He had travelled to Saudi Arabia for work before he returned back to Egypt.
Joining the Muslim Brotherhood
All of Ma'mun Al-Hudaybi's family members were affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood. His father was the General Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood and his mother was in charge of the sisters’ section. She was taking care of the prisoners' families. All of his family members were arrested during the era of former President Abdel Nasser.
Al-Hudaybi used to work as a Judge in the Suez Canal in the time of Tripartite Aggression on Egypt. He was arrested by the Israeli army because he participated in the resistance operations against the aggression. At that time, the Israeli authorities tried to force him to insult the President of Egypt, but he refused. In the contrary, Al-Dajwi, who was the Governor of the Gaza Strip at that time, agreed to insult the President of Egypt in exchange for his freedom. Ma'mun Al-Hudaybi was forcibly asked to resign when he was arrested by the Egyptian authorities. After his release, he travelled to Saudi Arabia for work. He returned back from Saudi Arabia after the Court of Cassation decided that his resignation was invalid. He was given his position back in the Court of Appeal for a short period before his retirement.
Al-Hudaybi was in charge of the political department of the Muslim Brotherhood. In addition, he was elected in the Parliament of Egypt in 1987 where he was the head of the Brotherhood's parliamentary bloc. He was also chosen as the official spokesman for the Muslim Brotherhood after the Parliament of Egypt dissolved. Al-Hudaybi was the Deputy Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood after the death of Dr. Ahmed Al-Malt. After that, he became the sixth General Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood in 2002.
Times of Hardship
Al-Hudaybi was arrested by the Israeli army during the Tripartite Aggression against Egypt for his participation in the resistance at that time. Although everyone was released and returned to Cairo at that time, Al-Hudaybi was arrested again by the Egyptian authorities in 1965. He stayed in prison until the death of Abdel Nasser.
Death
The sixth General Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, Ma'mun Al-Hudaybi died on the 16th Dhu al-Qadah 1424 AH, 8th January 2004 . He was buried next to his father Hassan Al-Hudaybi in Arab Al-Sawalha - Shibin Al-Qanater.
