FJP Statement in Response to Field Marshal’s Speech

Dr. Mohamed Saad Katatni, Secretary-General of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), stated that the party - with all the Egyptian people - will watch closely the level of commitment by the chief of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) to hand over power to civilian representatives of the people through parliamentary and presidential elections no later than mid-2012, so the armed forces return to their barracks and carry their defined duties defending the homeland and protecting its territory, rather than indulging in political affairs, which exposed them to criticism.

The FJP expects more than SCAF apologies and consolations: immediate action to reveal all the facts about invisible hands – referred to by SCAF chief in his speech – followed by trials for the crimes they committed, especially in the recent events, and compensation to be paid quickly to the injured and the families of martyrs.

The great Egyptian people will prove their ability to face all challenges, including the receipt of power for their elected representatives and their national government and its civil president; they will work with all their might – all their heart – to take Egypt out of its economic, security, political and social crises, and will maintain their legitimate right to demonstrate and protest peacefully.
