Muslim Brotherhood’s Statement on: The Attack on Al-Aqsa Mosque
The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) condemns the calls launched by groups of Jewish settlers for slaughtering animal sacrifices in Al-Aqsa Mosque during the Jewish "Passover". It also condemns the procedures that preceded the "Passover" date, including blocking the entry of worshipers to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, evacuation of the Al-Aqsa Mosque from Mu'takifeen (worshippers devoting themselves to ibadah during certain days at Mosque) and Mourabiteen (worshippers devoting themselves to protecting the Mosque against attacks by Jewish extremists), in addition to closing off crossings of the West Bank Jerusalem and Gaza; to prevent the Palestinians from access to their Al-Aqsa Mosque, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
The MB considers this action a renewed escalation against the Palestinian people, assault on freedom of worship and encroachment on the principle of respect for sanctities, not in Palestine alone, but in the entire Muslim world. Al-Aqsa Mosque has its own sanctity and great status in the hearts of Muslims, as it is the Muslims' first Qiblah, and the third of the Two Holy Mosques; and attacking and desecrating the Al-Aqsa Mosque is a serious challenge to the feelings of Muslims all over the world.
In this regard, the MB appreciates positions calling for stopping these provocations, particularly the position of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, which considered these actions "extremist Zionist campaigns", and warned that such campaigns "will only ignite the fire of hatred and violence and are considered a dangerous trend and an unprecedented escalation and provocation of the feelings of Muslims across the world during this holy month.
The Muslim Brotherhood also hails the steadfastness of the defiant Palestinian people and appreciates their precious sacrifices for the sake of freedom and defense of land and sanctities. It also calls on the entire Muslim world –both peoples and governments– to stand up to this blatant challenge from the occupying forces, and to keep hopeful and confident that victory is imminent; as Allah Almighty says: “And Allah will surely support those who support His cause. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might”. (Al-Hajj – 40)
