Muslim Brotherhood Condemns the Burning of a Copy of the Holy Quran in Sweden

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Praise be to Allah; and blessings and peace be upon His Messenger, his kinsfolk, companions, and followers

In coincidence with the most significant religious occasion that brings together Muslims all over the world, the blessed Eid al-Adha day, a Swedish court allowed organization of an "extremist demonstration" to burn a copy of the Holy Qur'an, where the demonstration took place today, 28 June 2023, in Stockholm. The holy Qur’an was actually burned and humiliated in other ways during the demonstration, in clear defiance of Islamic religious sentiments, and in a major violation of the sanctity of our holy book, on our greatest Eid day.

The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) had previously condemned this disgraceful behaviour over and over again, and called on the international community to assume its responsibilities towards fuelling the hate rhetoric that threatens peace and social security; and it had also called for the need to learn about the Holy Qur’an; Heaven's message to earth.

Today, the MB calls on the Islamic peoples, scholars of the nation, and every Muslim who is zealous for his religion, to show a positive attitude towards the Holy Qur’an, in response to this disgraceful event. It also calls for highlighting this through oratory, writing, blogging, and dissemination of footages, speeches, and lessons, with the aim of showing the bright civilized face of Islam, its tolerance with the other, and the goodness that Islam brings to all mankind. This also aims to resist campaigns of obscurantism and dissemination of hatred against Muslims, scaring (others) of Islam and stigmatizing it as ‘terrorism’, of which it is innocent; those campaigns that have been practiced by international media, and incited by regimes, governments and political parties.

As we call on the entire nation to carry out the duty of dissemination and defending the Islamic sanctities, we single out the nation's scholars and remind them of the need to undertake this most important and great duty. Given the fact that Allah has taken a covenant from scholars (as scholars are the heirs of Prophets) for dissemination and support:

“And recall when Allah took a covenant from the Prophets: 'This is the Book and the Wisdom which I have given you. Should a Prophet come to you confirming that which is already with you, you shall believe in him and shall help him. So saying, Allah asked: 'Do you agree and accept to take up the burden of the covenant (which I conclude with you)?' They answered: 'We agree,' He said: 'Then bear witness; and I am with you among the witnesses.” (Aal-Imran: 81).

Introduce the message of Islam to all people in a good way, remove the cover of unacquaintance of the holy Qur’an, the miracle of Heavens, and mobilize the nation behind the leadership of Prophet Mohamed, peace be upon him, and under the banner of the great holy Qur’an:

“… Were it not for Allah’s repelling people, some by means of others, monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques, where Allah’s Name is commemorated much, would have been demolished. And Allah will surely support those who stand up for Him. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might.” (Al-Hajj: 40).
