An Egyptian Citizen Killed Under Torture

The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) strongly condemns the murder of the Egyptian citizen Mahmoud Tawfiq, under torture inside Egypt’s National Security Agency (NSA), after being arbitrarily arrested on 25 June 2023 from home, where he had been assaulted in front of his family members, and the furniture of his flat destroyed.

The Brotherhood affirms that the statement issued by the Ministry of Interior yesterday, Sunday, 9 July 2033, in fact implies a condemnation against it and evidence of the credibility of what the various human rights organizations had documented related to the circumstances of the martyr’s arrest, then subjecting him to torture, up to ultimately killing him in custody. The MB calls for opening an investigation into this crime, publicly disseminating the full facts, and bringing all perpetrators to trial.

The Muslim Brotherhood also calls on the international community to exert more efforts in backing human rights issues in Egypt, and to practice required pressures to stop these violations that have been ongoing for a whole decade.

As the MB mourns the martyr Mahmoud Tawfiq, and prays to Allah for bestowing His mercy, forgiveness, and pleasure on the martyr, it extends sincere condolences to his family.

“…And give glad tidings to the patient ones. Those who, when afflicted by a calamity, say, “To Allah, we belong, and to Him, we are returning.” (Al Baqarah: 155-156)
