We condemn the politicized judicial verdicts against Sheikh Rached Ghannouchi

Muslim Brotherhood (MB) strongly condemns the unfair prison sentences issued by a Tunisian court against twenty Tunisian political and patriotic figures, particularly the Islamic thinker Sheikh Rached Ghannouchi, the former Tunisian Parliament Speaker and leader of Tunisia's Ennahda Movement, (also known as Ennahda [Renaissance] Party), who has a long history of national struggle for a free Tunisia.

The MB stresses that the "use of judiciary" to eliminate political rivals is a familiar practice among authoritarian regimes, and that such judicial rulings are nothing, but political decisions disguised as judicial proceedings, especially that these procedures lack even the most basic standards of a fair trial.

The Muslim Brotherhood expresses its full solidarity with Sheikh Rached Ghannouchi and all political detainees, calls on the Tunisian authorities to release them all immediately and to distance the judiciary from involvement in politics.

The Brotherhood also calls on human rights organizations and cultural and scholarly associations to demand the freedom of all political detainees.

May Allah Almighty protect Tunisia and its people, as free and honourable.
