Attacks have become a habit

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information, ANHRI, denounces the increasing frequency of the  assaulting on reporters while doing their job. However officials have repeated declarations expressing respect to the freedom of press freedom the right of the reporter to have access to information.

 In a statement, a copy of which was posted to Ikhwanweb, ANHRI reported that the last assault incident by the security officers was at the ministry of irrigation when Maher Abd AlWahed, correspondent of Youm7 (Seventh Day) weekly and its representative at the ministry, was covering a single employee sit in strike to some recent administrative decisions.


Abd AlWahed noticed that the striking employee  had fainted, as he was trying to take a photo of him the ministry's  security forces attacked, insulted seized his cell phone and detained him in the security office.

Abd AlWahed is the third reporter attacked this week; Hossam Alhendy of Dostoor and Farouk AlGamal of AlMasry AlYoum, were also assaulted by some lawyers inside the headquarters of the syndicate.

ANHRI requested the minister of irrigation to open an immediate investigation regarding the assault incident of Abd AlWahed, a reporter who was assaulted while on duty. ANHRI also requested the prosecutor general to conduct a serious investigation regarding the reporter's attackers in a step to protect the reporters and to protect the right of the society in having a respectable journalist's profession.
