Statement: Life sentence is unjust and lacks integrity, and Ezzat has set the course of non-violent struggle

In the name of Allah

“…And whosoever does not judge by that which Allah has revealed, such are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers - of a lesser degree).” Al-Maidah 45

Muslim Brotherhood condemns the life sentence ruling against Dr. Mahmoud Ezzat, deputy General Guide of the brotherhood. The condemnation is due to the unjust sentence lacking legal reasoning and the litigation lacking basic standards of integrity. In addition to the selection of judges with prejudices against the brotherhood.

Dr Ezzat was not allowed to meet with his lawyer since his arrest, he hasn’t discussed the accusation against him, and there was no evidence established during the court proceedings. Hence, this ruling is only an expression of vengeance against the “Muslim brotherhood”.

Dr. Ezzat and his detained brothers face a much harsh and severe sentence. Despite the successive death and life sentences, slow death within the prison dungeons remains the worst fate.

We renew our call upon international community to put pressure on the Egyptian regime, considering the facts corroborated by reports of local and international human rights organizations; to freeze death sentences, stop violations against and release over 60,000 detainees of free speech and thought.

Dr. Ezzat was keen on the country and its social fabric; thus, he laid the principle of non-violent struggle, during his time in leadership. The Brotherhood is committing to this principle and is not forfeiting it; hoping to preserve the security of Egypt and to help it rise up till achieving social justice.

We remind ourselves of a day we all will be held accountable before Allah the Just.

“And be afraid of the Day when you shall be brought back to Allah. Then every person shall be paid what he earned, and they shall not be dealt with unjustly.” Al-Baqarah 281

Praise Allah the greatest
