About Halting UNRWA Support: The Decision Manifests Erosion Of International Legitimacy From Within
The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) condemns the decision made by the United States, Australia, Britain, Canada, Italy and Finland and the Netherlands to suspend their support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
The MB believes that this decision is an attempt to remove the genocide charge that the occupying entity faces at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), by branding the UNRWA that uses hospitals and schools as facilities to care for the displaced, as supportive of terrorism, which provides cover that would justify the systematic bombing of these facilities, with the aim of exterminating defenceless civilians who take shelter in the organization’s headquarters, without participating in acts of war.
The Brotherhood also believes that this unprecedented decision in the history of the UNRWA, since its establishment in 1949, constitutes an expansion of the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip to include Palestinian refugees in the West Bank, Jordan and Lebanon, which means more conspiracy against the Palestinian people and their cause, in a way that would deepen their tragedy and double the suffering of the refugees. In fact, this decision clearly reveals the inhuman face of Western civilization, and the phoniness of the claims of freedom, democracy, and human rights that the United States draws about itself.
The MB calls on the international community to assume its responsibility towards the UNRWA, given the fact that the organization is assigned by the United Nations the task of the relief and works of Palestinian refugees, and to demand the countries that have decided to halt the UNRWA support to review their biased positions that violate international resolutions and laws. In this regard, the Brotherhood confirms that such decisions would lead to the erosion of the international order and international legitimacy from within.
On the other hand, the MB calls on the Arab and Muslim nations to assume their responsibilities in response to this decision through practical procedures to confront the Zionist allegations at the international level and in the United Nations, while working to provide solutions and put forward initiatives to fill any vacuum that may arise due to the decision.
The Muslim Brotherhood also hopes that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the League of Arab States (LAS) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will provide initiatives in this regard, with the aim of protecting the Palestinians, based on the duty of support, solidarity and Islamic brotherhood.
