We condemn the cowardly terrorist suicide bombing that targeted Mar Elias Church in Damascus
The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) condemns the cowardly terrorist suicide bombing that targeted Mar Elias Church in the Dweila neighborhood, southeast of the Syrian capital, Damascus on Sunday evening, leaving over 22 martyrs of innocent people and wounding others, including women and children.
The MB stresses that this brutal attack on a place of worship and the shedding of the blood of innocent Syrian citizens constitutes a direct violation of the teachings of Islam. Targeting places of worship is a crime that only serves the nation’s enemies and fuels the schemes of division and sectarian strife pursued by the enemies of Syria and the whole region.
The Brotherhood extends its sincere condolences to the Syrian leadership and people and to the families of the victims. It also prays to Allah Almighty to grant a speedy recovery to the injured and calls on the honourable Syrian people to unite in the face of violence, extremism, and hatred, so that such crimes would not affect the Syrian social fabric. However, the MB expresses its confidence in the ability of Syria’s leadership and people to overcome the years of ordeal and build their strong, unified state.
