MB: We Condemn the Crime of Execution in Political Cases and Demand Standing up Against Injustice and Politicization of the Judiciary

The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) condemns the execution of a number of detainees in political cases within the Borg-el Arab Prison, Alexandria, and views this as a new crime to be added to the Egyptian regime’s record of grave violations against detainees and political opponents.

Execution of death sentences in cases marred by widespread violations under trials lacking guarantees of justice and integrity, is an unjust move that cannot be tolerated, especially amid recurrent rights reports about torture, enforced disappearance, forced confessions )extracted by coercion), and  depriving defendants of their basic rights to defense and a fair trial.

The MB affirms that the right to life is an inherent right that cannot be tampered with through political decisions and exceptional trials and that the use of the death penalty in the context of political conflict manifests systematic revenge and a form of state terrorism against Egyptian citizens, considering this a crime that warrants an international stance, especially from countries cooperating with the Egyptian regime and prohibiting the death penalty in their own countries.

The Brotherhood also calls upon the world's parliaments, particularly European parliaments, to uphold their legal and moral responsibilities and cease all forms of security and political cooperation with the Egyptian regime as long as it continues to kill outside the bounds of justice and uses the judiciary as a tool to suppress opponents and eliminate political rivals.

The MB calls upon politicians, human rights activists, international organizations, and freedom-loving people worldwide to continue demanding an end to this ongoing crime, to take immediate action to halt the execution of death sentences in political cases, and to open independent and transparent investigations into the violations that accompanied the investigations and trials and hold accountable all those involved in issuance or execution of these unjust rulings.

The Muslim Brotherhood demands that the Egyptian regime stop politicization of legal and judicial tools and using them against opponents. It also warns against the prevalence of injustice, for injustice leads to the ruin of civilization; considering it the height of injustice for a crime to occur during the sacred months and for family and relatives to be oppressed.

The Brotherhood believes that the Egyptian people deserve a decent life in which the Egyptian citizen feels safe in his person, his honor and his property; and in this vein, it calls on the Egyptian people to reject injustice in all its forms.

Allah Almighty said: ﴾And fear a trial which will not strike those who have wronged among you exclusively and know that Allah is severe in penalty. ﴿ (Al-Anfal: 25)

May Allah Almighty protect Egypt from all harm,,
