MB Statement Regarding the Renewed Escalation in Yemen
For cessation of further bloodshed and to unite efforts in the face of the greater danger, we are proceeding along a path to heal the Yemeni rift
﴾The believers are nothing else than brothers (in Islamic religion). Somake reconciliation between your brothers, and fear Allah, that you may receive mercy. ﴿ (Al-Hujuraat: 10)
Brotherly Yemen is now witnessing a new round of escalation at a highly sensitive moment, where local, regional, and international calculations are intertwined, and assessments vary according to the positions and perspectives of the different parties. While we recognize and understand this complexity, what cannot be misinterpreted or postponed is that Yemeni blood is being spilled once again, and the security of the entire Arabian Peninsula is at stake, at a time when the whole nation needs every ounce of its strength to confront the threat that endangers us all.
Accordingly, the Muslim Brotherhood announces its position regarding this issue as follows:
First: The sanctity of all Yemeni blood and all Muslim blood, without exception or distinction; as no interest supersedes the preservation of life, and no cause justifies the continued shedding of blood.
Second: Calling for an immediate de-escalation by all parties, including a halt to all attacks on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Yemeniterritory, and keeping civilians as well as the civilian and vital infrastructure in both countries out of the circle of targeting.
Third: Returning to the path of de-escalation and consolidating it, building upon accumulated understandings, and proceeding without delay with urgent humanitarian measures – particularly the provision ofrelief to displaced persons, opening roads, releasing detainees and abductees, and lifting restrictions on the movement of people and goods.
Fourth: Calling on the Yemeni parties to engage in a comprehensive national dialogue that leads to a formula for coexistence based on a fair partnership and a state for all Yemenis, without excluding or breaking any party; a state that preserves the unity of the country and gives justice to those who have suffered grievances, and addressing outstanding national issues.
Fifth: It must be emphasized that the nation cannot afford any further depletion of its resources in internal conflicts while the Israeli project proceeds to impose overt military hegemony over the entire region – a region whose very soil has not been spared from Israeli strikes, taking into mind that the Yemeni land itself was not spared from its Israeliattacks. Indeed, every domestic front that ignites represents a front diverted away from confronting that (Israeli) project.
This MB position stems from interconnected and well-considered orientations that govern its vision for the region during this period of transformation, including that:
1) The scheme to establish a regional order based on Israeli military hegemony constitutes the greatest threat – one in the face of which all internal disputes and conflicts must be set aside – and that the priority lies in mobilizing the efforts of the region’s states, peoples, and vital forces to resist it.
2) The emerging Arab and Islamic defense arrangements and alliances– which bolster the region's capacity to deter Israeli ambitions and expand its margin of strategic autonomy – merit support and consolidation.
3) The stability of the region requires a regional balance built on realistic understandings between its main countries, limiting the conflicts that weaken them all and deplete their resources, and cutting off the path for those who are betting on igniting them.
4) The right of peoples to resist foreign occupation of their land is an inalienable right that cannot be criminalized – For in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria, and wherever else it exists, it is an occupation.However, the banner of resistance should be raised only in the face of the occupier, not in the face of brothers.
5) Internal conflicts in several countries across the region cannot be resolved by force of arms; they can only be ended through national solutions that halt their exorbitant humanitarian, economic, and security costs. Furthermore, external interventions that fuel these conflicts or usurp national decision-making are unacceptable, regardless of their source.
6) Containing sectarian polarization in the Islamic world, rejecting the exploitation of sectarian identity in political conflicts, and abandoning rhetoric that deepens division are duties incumbent upon all forces of the nation – particularly the (religion’s) scholars– for this polarization is the very breach through which those who wish the nation harm gain entry.
Therefore, out of our responsibility towards the nation, and in respect for the right of Yemenis alone to determine their future, the Muslim Brotherhood is proceeding on a path to mend the Yemeni rift and stop the bleeding, placing its relationships and communication channels at the service of every serious effort, in coordination with existing regional efforts, and in cooperation with all those keen to preserve the nation’s blood and resources.
While the whole region is undergoing a process of reshaping, it is the duty of us all to ensure this entails the lowest possible cost for our countries and peoples, and to prioritize supreme interests so that this phase leads to a regional order that achieves liberation, justice, prosperity, and stability.
We pray to Allah Almighty to spare the blood of Yemenis and to unite the whole (Arab and Muslim) nation upon everything that ensures its glory and strength.
