MB: Performance of Jewish Rituals and Banning Muslim Prayer at the Ibrahimi Mosque Is a Flagrant Violation That Provokes the Sentiments of Muslims
The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) condemns the Zionist occupation authorities' closure of the Ibrahimi Mosque to Muslim worshippers, while simultaneously allowing settlers to perform Jewish rituals there under the protection of occupation forces.
In this regard, the Brotherhood views the Israeli act as an assault on the Ibrahimi Mosque and its sanctity, as well as on the Muslims' right to worship, and regards it as an attempt to Judaize the Mosque.
The MB stresses that freedom of worship and the protection of places of worship are guaranteed in times of peace and war, as well as under conditions of occupation; and that violating them contravenes Article 46 of the Hague Regulations, which mandates respect for religious rites.
Furthermore, these violations contravenes Article 27 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which guarantees respect for the beliefs and religious practices of protected persons, and Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which protects freedom of worship.
It is also noteworthy that Article 56 of the Hague Regulations mandates the protection of places of worship and prohibits their seizure, destruction, or willful damage.
The Brotherhood emphasizes that the holy sites in Palestine are not merely a local Palestinian matter; rather, they are an integral part of the whole nation’s faith, identity, and civilizational heritage. Protecting these holy sites from attempts to erase their identity or impose a process of Judaization there is a duty incumbent upon the entire nation – states, governments, peoples, and individuals alike.
In fact, everyone should support the Palestinian people's steadfast right to defend their land and holy sites and to determine their own destiny by all legitimate means, as well as guarantee the right of Muslims to perform their religious rites in their mosques freely and safely, without any obstruction or restriction.
